Howard Stern is already trying to spend some of that big money he’ll be earning when his risqu‚ radio show moves to a satellite network. “But the shock jock had better dig a little deeper into his pockets if he wants to live like “The King of all Media.” Already, he’s lost out on two different mansions, as bids he’s made in the $20 million range have been rejected.
Stern, who quickly discovered that the Amagansett house he bought in December 2002 for $5.5 million sits too close to the public beach, began the search for a new home after both fans and foes began camping out on the sand in front of his place. They start cheering or jeering every time he walks out of the house,” a friend of Stern’s said last summer about the raucous groupies. “He’s just fed up.” Last July, he bid $18.5 million for a seven-bedroom place on 7 acres in East Hampton, which the owners accepted. Then, bad luck struck; another buyer came in at the last minute and offered to pay the full price before Stern had a chance to sign the contract. Stern then suspended his search until last December, when he put his five-bedroom seaside home on the market for $9.75 million. His most recent attempt has him bidding another $18 million on a home north of the highway in Bridgehampton (far away from any beach) that has an asking price of $25 million. But the owner, Michael Chazen, seems to be holding firm. The new, never-lived-in custom home of approximately 22,000 square feet has seven bedroom suites - each with sitting rooms - a large caretaker’s apartment, pool with pool house, tennis court, and (this is cool), a full-size professional basketball court! Both Sotheby’s and Allan M. Schneider Associates are listing co-brokers.
