The five-acre island at the northern end of Three Mile Harbor has been purchased by the town, which plans to keep it as a nature preserve. East Hampton Supervisor William McGintee said town officials had originally proposed paying $3.3 million for the land, but that the family of Clifford Keyes, which has owned the island for about 30 years, put it on the market for $4.2 million. Margaret Quigley, 91, turned the wrong way and walked down the street instead of back to her house on Old Stone Highway, police said. The lot is about a half-mile from her house.
