Suffolk County Executive Steve Levy signed legislation last week authorizing the purchase of a 7.25-acre parcel of land in Shelter Island for open space preservation. But the deal almost didn’t happen—until a nonprofit group stepped in to help.
Originally, Suffolk County and the Town of Shelter Island were to both purchase 50 percent of Tedford Property, a 14.5-acre parcel.
